About Bloomington

Engage in the community

There are lots of ways for you to get involved in the Bloomington community.

  • Mentor young people at the Banneker Community Center, which houses a variety of community programs and activities for kids and teens. The center’s name reflects the contributions of Benjamin Banneker, a prominent person in African American history because of his accomplishments as a scientist, inventor, and architect.
  • Volunteer at local shelters that support women and children or a community kitchen that serves people in need.
  • Become involved in outreach with a local church.
  • Join the local chapter of the NAACP or Black Lives Matter.
  • Focus on sustainability and our environment in one of many groups and committees on campus.
  • Take time to volunteer at local hospitals.
