Committee and group activities are our way of building community and establishing an ethic of care within the village. We have four committees, one executive council, one leadership group, and sisterhood and brotherhood groups. We also use groups and committee spaces in intellectual ways to establish leadership and professional development. We welcome students’ participation with the executive council, the committees, and with the sisterhood and brotherhood groups.
Student Groups & Committees
Executive Council is an elective body that includes the president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, governor, and a historian who documents the activities.
The Academic Committee’s work involves the establishment of academic activities for members of the floor to engage in order to support our quest for academic excellence. This committee has two co-chairs.
The Trips Committee’s work involves creating dialogue about where the village wishes to conduct its educational emergent experience. This committee has two co-chairs.
The Showcase Committee’s work primarily concerns arranging activities that foster the imaginative and creative energies of Atkins family members who, during the spring semester, participate in either or both of the Atkins Evening Talent Show or the Atkins Academic Morning Showcase. This committee has two co-chairs.
The Hospitality Committee hosts parties and get-togethers with food and games to build unity and relationships on our floor. These connections will be useful for support throughout their duration at IU and as Atkins alums. This committee has two co-chairs.
The Sisterhood Circle brings women together to encourage them to support each other by listening to their voices on many issues and by caring about their encounters, especially the negative ones. The Sister Circle also discusses how to support the men on our floor. This group has two co-chairs.
The Brotherhood Circle brings men together to encourage them to support each other by listening to their voices on many issues and by caring about their encounters, especially the negative ones. The Brotherhood Circle also discusses how to support the women on our floor. This group has two co-chairs.
Atkins Leadership Group
The Atkins Leadership Group is comprised of each member of the executive council and all of the co-chairs. They meet and discuss questions and issues, as well as ideas, that have been expressed by each of the different committees and the Brotherhood and Sisterhood groups. Together, through their deliberations, they approve budgets for village programmatic activities.
